For Survivors in Monterey County

  • Breast Cancer Assistance Group of Monterey County (BCAGMC):  BCAGMC is an organization of breast cancer survivors who work to improve the lives of local breast cancer patients and their families. The primary activity of BCAGMC is raising funds to provide financial assistance to women in the California Central Coast area who have breast cancer.  BCAGMC provides grants to women with breast cancer who need financial assistance during diagnosis, treatment or recovery.  Grants are used primarily to cover basic living expense (food, rent, utilities, etc.) Having served on the Board, I know how committed this group is committed to getting financial assistance quickly to those who need it. http://bcagmc.org
  • Live Longer, Live Stronger:  Moving from Cancer Patient to Survivor.  Community Hospital’s Comprehensive Cancer Center in partnership with Peninsula Wellness Center, provides this FREE interactive, motivational series of classes to help Survivors live longer and stronger after a cancer diagnosis and treatment. Expert faculty provide practical strategies on topics such as:  nutrition, stress reduction, and exercise and fitness to aid you to take control of your survivorship.  ***Please Note:  Additionally, Joy Smith, Oncology Nurse Educator is an ANGEL and provides tremendous support and expertise to help one navigate the cancer journey.                                        http://www.chomp.org/what-we-do/cancer-center/ 
  • Maren Martin, LCSW:  Counseling for Individuals & Couples.  Maren draws upon 18+ years experience and experience, including special skill in serving people afflicted with chronic illnesses such as cancer to enhance their ability to develop more intimate, fulfilling, fun and passionate relationships.  Maren's practice is based in Pacific Grove, CA. www.marenmartin.com 
  • Monarch C.A.R.E.S.:  Young Women Cancer Survivors Creating Empowering Connections Via Community, Advocacy, Resources, Education & Service.  Founded to address the unique needs and interests of young women diagnosed with cancer by three women (Ratna Anagol, Nicole Levere and myself) who received cancer diagnoses when they were under 40, Monarach C.A.R.E.S. key activities include hosting Girls Night Out gatherings to build community among young women cancer Survivors and delivering care packages to newly diagnosed young women in the Monterey Peninsula and Salinas Valley areas.  FB community:  www.facebook.com/monarchcares; Email:  monarchprojectteam@gmail.com.

  • Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered (FORCE):  Fighting Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer. FORCE was founded on the principle that no one should have to face hereditary breast and ovarian cancer alone. FORCE is the only national non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. http://www.facingourrisk.org
  • Young Survival Coalition (YSC): Young Women Facing Breast Cancer Together.  Young Survival Coalition (YSC) is the premier global organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. YSC offers resources, connections and outreach so women feel supported, empowered and hopeful. (Recently signed on to serve as local Face-to-Face Coordinator and Western State Leader.) http://www.youngsurvival.org
  • CaringBridge:  Bringing family, friends and loved ones together when it matters.  CaringBridge is an online space where anyone coping with illness can connect, share news, and receive support through two FREE resources: 1) CaringBridge Sites - personal, protected sites make it easy to stay connected during any type of health event. Family and friends can visit the site to stay informed and leave supportive messages; and 2) SupportPlanner - a calendar that helps family and friends coordinate care and organize helpful tasks, like bringing a meal, offering rides, taking care of pets and other needs.

  • Center for Restorative Breast Surgery:  The Center for Restorative Breast Surgery was established to serve as a dedicated resource for women seeking the most advanced methods of breast reconstruction utilizing the body’s own tissue. Frank DellaCroce, M.D., FACS, Scott Sullivan, M.D., FACS, and Chris Trahan, MD, FACS specialize exclusively in state-of-the-art breast surgery techniques that allow for microsurgical fat transplantation to rebuild the breast without sacrifice of important functional muscles.   • Love, Twelve:  Pin-Up Your Support for Young Women Cancer Survivors.  Love, Twelve seeks to converge art, knowledge, friendship and positive, supportive community of caring and healing for young adult women surviving cancer. Tracy Birdsell started Love, Twelve after she had a lumpectomy at 29. The experience left her feeling rather isolated and alone, even though she had incredibly supportive friends and family. So she turned to her passion and profession of photography and invited other young survivors to help create a vintage-inspired pin-up calendar. The experience made her realize how empowering and healing the experience is for women to reclaim their bodies from illness and from our self-imposed limitations. http://lovetwelve.com/about/
  • Breast Cancer Action Group:  Toxic Time Is Up.  Breast Cancer Action (BCAction) is a national, feminist grassroots education and advocacy organization working to end the breast cancer epidemic. BCAction’s members are women with breast cancer and their supporters — ordinary people who, by educating themselves on the facts and the issues related to breast cancer, have empowered themselves and others to create needed change to end the epidemic.   http://www.bcaction.org

  • Surviving and Moving Forward:  The SamFund for Young Adult Survivors of Cancer.  The SAMFund supports young adult cancer survivors in the United States as they recover from the financial impact of cancer treatment. Through direct financial assistance and free online support and education, The SAMFund helps young adults move forward towards their personal, professional, and academic goals.http://www.thesamfund.org
  • The Pink Daisy Project is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to helping young women with breast cancer manage treatment a little easier. It is headquartered in the Seattle area but helps young survivors from all across the country and sometimes even beyond.  http://pinkdaisyproject.com
